The Nine Lives of Chloe King – Pilot Review

After watching my first ABC Family show, Pretty Little Liars  last June. I thought I would give another show a try like I did with PLL.

The show is based on the novels with the same by  Celia Thomson.

Chloe King, is a teenager who discovers she has special cat-like powers following her death, including nine lives, superhuman speed, strength, hearing, agility, and the ability to climb objects by extending her nails like cat claws. When she realizes a mysterious figure is shadowing her, she goes on to uncover that she is a descendant of an ancient race. She learns she may be the key to protecting the race from human assassins who have hunted them for thousands of years.

Whilst I was watching I couldn’t feel any chemistry or connection with any of the characters. Chloe’s friends seem dull and boring. Her mother…just like any other mother on a TV show. I actually thought the show was based on another book series by Sara Shepard. Thank god it wasn’t.

Although, I think the show could prove successful if it goes in a different direction with an edge. Okay, Chloe killed the dude by kissing him, and she didn’t really seem that upset. I would love to see her reactions to that in the next episode.

Also, in the heated actions scenes I couldn’t help but think it looked like Buffy. The way Chloe would do some action movie and give her own quirky personal comment was just like Buffy.

All in all, the show has two left feet. But, if it has better stories than the pilot and gives us more loving for the other characters. Then Chloe King could be successful and have room to grow.
