Esmee Denters Dropped By Interscope Records

The Dutch singer, who in 2008 attracted the attention of Dutch media scouts and American pop singer Justin Timberlake, has been dropped by Interscope Records. Denters who was signed to Timberlake’s Interscope imprint, Tennman Records, in 2008 revealed on her Facebook page that she is no longer with them;

Hey everyone
I told you all a while ago that I wanted to share more of my story with you. I have had a some really eye opening moments this week. And I feel so different from a few of months ago. I know it has been a long time that I have put out any new music. And watching your lovely Facebook/twitter/youtube messages comments every morning when I wake up has really helped me through some of the harder moments. So I really wanna thank you for that. Like Oprah Winfrey once said : Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. Thank you all for riding the bus with me and sticking with me and encouraging me to keep going. After all life is a Journey not a destination.

I know you all have been waiting patiently for me to come out with new material. I have been going through a lot of big transitions in my life. I know you guys probably figured it out by now but it’s true I am not signed to Tennman records/ Interscope anymore and I haven’t been with them for over a year now. It has been a huge change and I am incredibly proud of all the work that I have done and the amazing people I have been able to work with while being on a major label. Sometimes things just don’t work out. In the beginning I found it really hard to accept but as I started to take a closer look at my situation and mostly at myself. I think it was time for me to grow not just as a singer and an artist but also as a business women. It was time to stand on my own to feet and it kind of made me realize. I started out with nothing but my talent and a dream and look where it got me. Do I really need this big machine behind me?

I was the first artist with a massive Youtube following to get singed to a Major label. One of the biggest reasons for an artist to sign with a label is to give the artist exposure they need. But in my case I already did. I even remember my manager and I thinking should we try and do this on our own? It’s funny cause one day we where having a meeting with the people from the label who where joking sarcasticly to each other saying you did really well kid! I guess all we can do is fuck it up now!

It’s so weird you can only connect the dots when you look back at everything that’s happened and suddenly it all seems so obvious. But I guess going through this whole experience has taught me a lot and it has given me so much knowledge. I feel like everything is slowly falling into place now. I have been writing and working on new material for the past few years. And I feel like I am ready. I know more then ever what it is that I want and I feel like things are really starting to click. The reason I have been so careful at putting out any new music is because I want to give you guys something that I can stand behind 100 %. Something that I know your gonna love. You can’t force creativity it comes in the moments you least expect it. I strongly believe this is only the beginning. I am very proud of the success I have had with my first album but there is so much more to come! This is definitely not the last you will hear of me! I am not a has been I am a Will be! It felt really good writing all of my feelings down and sharing them with you. I hope you all understand me a little bit better now. Thank you for supporting me I couldn’t wish for better fans
Love X

Timberlake and Denters performing in 2010.

During her time at Interscope she released her debut album, Outta Here, in April 2009 and achieved  a top ten hit in several European countries with her debut single Outta Here. However, after the hit single her success waned and she began to fall out of the charts.

Denters is now currently working on her sophomore album on her own.

  1. were her sales good in europe ? why was she dropped ? rihanna’s can sing as well as esmee but her 1st cd sales were low, yet she wasnt dropped.

  2. As a fan of Esmee, I feel let down by Tennman records, who I felt just didn’t work hard enough to get her out there. ‘Outta Here’ reached #7 in the UK, which, for a debut single is pretty good. But I can’t even remember hearing much publicity about the second single, It’s like they didn’t even bother to publicise it that much. She’s a gifted singer, but talent alone can’t do everything.

Its almost like they made no effort with her, and then because the results didn’t follow, they dropped her. Funny thing is, She has the fans WORLDWIDE needed to make a single reach the charts in numerous territories but it seemed like they didnt exploit that opportunity at all.

I can remember the excitement when watching her videos which featured all different celebs like Natasha bedingfield and Justin Timberlake when things were starting to happen for her. She had the following behind her and we were all excited to hear the first professional single, and see how massive it was going to be. I’ve gotta be honest, it grew on me and it did well in the charts, but I would have preferred her first song “Outta Here” to have a stronger and more defined chorus and a catchier hook.

She initially got signed just before Justin Bieber, and there are Videos on Youtube where she meets him as a kid when his windows of opportunity to be signed were beginning to open. He ended up signing a deal with Usher instead of Justin Timberlake. Look at what Usher did with Bieber, and Justin Bieber is now worth something like $50million+ because they worked so hard on getting him out there.
They pushed him into the industry, he had a good team behind him, and as a result “One Time” got him noticed on a bigger scale with people saying “Have you heard this new kid Justin Bieber?” then they released “Baby” and it went massive. After that, hes caused such a stir that I’m sure they didnt need to work as hard on promoting him as they first did, because hes got so much publicity.

Esmee has the talent, there is no denying that. She has the volume of fans needed to make something happen. The multi-million video views on her Youtube channel just shows how much of a positive stir those videos caused.

She didn’t get the push from Tennman that she needed to break through and get a good enough hold to stay in the industry.

I feel like they’ve wasted something that could have been so good with her. Now we – as fans – are back at square one, watching her on Youtube when she should be selling out Arenas. I will continue to follow her videos and cannot wait to hear the news I want to hear from her Youtube vids.

You’ve dissapointed me JT, I wish she’d been picked up by Usher instead…

  3. I think the problem is that Esmee does not have anything exceptionals which could distinguish her from other popsingers. She sings ok and looks quite nice but could be exchanged easily for another girl her age. She missed her chance when she was in a media bubble in a time things should be happening for here big time. Now it’s done. She is never going to be massive, she doesn’t have the talent and charisma for that. What annoys me about her is that she is so busy with acting and pretending like a really big star while in fact she flopped as an ‘artist’ (as she calls herself) years ago. Maybe i’m wrong but i’m affraid it’s going to end like a has-been-story.

  4. She didn’t want to sell out and sign her name in blood, she is probably too nice for the industry and she has done her self a favour quite frankly, money and fame is not everything
